Where Volcanic Soil Meets Vine, and Lifestyle Meets Legacy
Lanzarote is famous for its dramatic landscapes, eternal spring climate, and laid-back coastal lifestyle — but there’s another side to the island that’s just as rich and distinctive: its wine.
With roots in centuries-old tradition, Lanzarote’s wine-making is a story of resilience, passion, and innovation, so much that its harvest is even called “heroic harvest”! And each June, locals and visitors alike raise a glass (or lace up their trainers!) to celebrate it all at one of the island’s most unique events: the Lanzarote WineRun.
A Landscape Like No Other
Lanzarote’s vineyards are unlike anywhere else in the world.
Here, vines grow in dark volcanic ash — known locally as picón — in shallow hollows, individually protected by crescent-shaped stone walls called socos. This traditional method helps to conserve moisture in the dry climate and shields the grapes from the wind, allowing them to thrive in an otherwise extreme environment.
The result? Unique, mineral-rich wines that are increasingly being recognised for their premium quality and distinctive character.
The Stars of the Vineyard
Lanzarote’s flagship white grape is Malvasía Volcánica, a variety exclusive to the Canary Islands, producing aromatic wines that are fresh, fruity, and expressive. You’ll also find Moscatel, often used in sweet or semi-sweet wines, as well as local reds made from Listán Negro, Negramoll, and Tintilla.
Many of Lanzarote’s wineries are located in the La Geria region, a protected landscape of sweeping volcanic vineyards and breathtaking scenery. It’s not just a treat for the palate—it’s a lifestyle.
The Lanzarote WineRun – A Celebration of Wine and Wellbeing
Taking place on 15 June 2025, the Lanzarote WineRun is more than just a race — it’s a celebration of the island’s wine culture, healthy living, and sustainability.
Participants can choose between a competitive 23 km race, a more relaxed 12 km run, or a scenic walk through the vineyards. Along the way, local bodegas offer tastings of their finest vintages, allowing you to sip while you stride.
The event finishes with the popular Wine & Food Festival, showcasing the island’s best wines, food stalls, and live music — all set in the heart of La Geria.
A Dream Lifestyle for Wine Lovers
For those who appreciate good wine, a relaxed pace of life, and awe-inspiring scenery, Lanzarote offers something truly special.
Owning a property here means having some of Spain’s most unique vineyards right on your doorstep — whether you’re seeking a countryside finca, a hillside villa, or a stylish retreat near La Geria.
Imagine sipping a chilled Malvasía on your south-facing terrace, overlooking volcanic peaks and Atlantic views. This is more than a holiday—it’s a lifestyle investment.
At Lanzarote Investments, we help you find homes that match your passions—be it wine, nature, or simply the joy of living somewhere exceptional.
Cheers to That
If you’re planning to visit Lanzarote in June, the WineRun is the perfect way to experience the island’s cultural richness and natural beauty — and maybe even take the first step towards your dream home here.
